What is Software Services or SaaS?

Q: What is Software Services or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)? Should we move our software to a SaaS model?

A: This is a question I hear a lot from software vendors that I work with. SaaS is a software business model in which customers pay a monthly or recurring fee to use software hosted by the ISV or other provider. For more about what is software services or SaaS, click here.

Just because SaaS is growing in adoption in certain customer segments does not mean you should necessarily move your software to a SaaS model. Many considerations need to go into making any large business model change, and the switch to software services can have a significant impact across your business.
